L.E.A.D. – 2022

LEADER EDUCATION and DISCOVERY

Our mission . . . To seek out new training and boldly go where Scouters go to learn!

L.E.A.D lives! Join your Fellow Scouters on Stardate March 5, 2022 for a one day mission of learning, fun, and scout spirit. We’ve reopened Registration but, there have been casualties, and some of the classes will not be available!

If you already registered for the original January 29 LEAD date, you do not need to re-register.  Your class choices are valid for the rescheduled March 5 LEAD date.  If any of your classes are cancelled, you will receive an email and an invitation to select another class.

Anyone who already registered for the January 29 date but now has a schedule conflict with March 5 and is unable to attend LEAD on the new date is eligible for a refund.  Please contact Jesse Barush or Joe Barton before February 24 to request a refund.

Leader Education and Discovery (L.E.A.D.) is the ultimate training event for Scout Leaders, Parents, and Older Scouts. We are excited to offer this in-person event at Diablo Valley College in Pleasant Hill on March 5, 2022.  Come make new friends, meet the people you have only seen on the holodeck, and reconnect with fellow scouters that you haven’t seen in awhile.

This year, L.E.A.D. offers over 100 classes across 5 colleges.  We have brought back favorites like cooking, fishing, knots, STEM for all programs, wood carving, and whittling.  In response to your feedback, we are offering more advanced and specialized classes like food safety, an expanded suite of technology related courses including online communications, and a whole series of Scoutbook-related topics.

Cub College: The Cub College will help both new and experienced Cub Leaders, be trained for their position, liven up Pack meetings, engage your parents in the program, and learn tried-and-true recruiting ideas.

Scouts BSA College: Both adults and youth leadership will find classes and training here. For the adults, there is Scoutmaster training, Boards of Review, and Merit Badge Counselor Training. Youth can register for Den Chief training and Introduction to Leadership Skills for Troops. Everyone can take courses like Fun with Paracord, cooking classes, and new classes on decision making.

Young Adult Programs: Recommended for all Venturing, Sea Scout, and Exploring scouts, parents, and scouters. Learn about the wide range of programs open to older youth and take specialized training specific to your program.

Outdoor Education: This is where you can learn to put the ”outing” in Scouting!  Anyone can take courses here.  There will be courses on hiking, camping, backpacking, navigation, knots, you name it, there is probably a course to match your interests.

Continuing Education: Here is where you find the classes that support all the programs – Scoutbook, Cyberchip, Marketing Your Unit, How to Utilize Your Unit Commissioner, and Creating Inclusive & Welcome Environments. This year features expanded safety-related courses. If there is something you are curious about and don’t find it listed in the other colleges, take a look in Continuing Education
