Safety Moment - Staying Hydrated
In the summer heat, we all know that we need to stay hydrated by drinking water. Sports drinks with electrolytes can also be helpful. Not so with so-called energy drinks which contain stimulants and other ingredients. The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) Committee on Nutrition and the AAP Council on Sports Medicine and Fitness have rigorously reviewed the available scientific data on energy drinks and sports drinks and found that “stimulant-containing energy drinks have no place in the diet of children and adolescents.” The BSA discourages the use of energy drinks in scouting activities. Water is best.
