Jake’s Eagle Scout Service Project – a real stitch up!
Jake’s project involved making lap buddies for a special education classroom at Lammersville School District in Mountain View.
Weighted blankets have been shown to provide proprioceptive information to our bodies causing the brain to release “feel good” neurotransmitters such as serotonin and dopamine. They can be comforting and calming to students with anxiety, stress, Asperger’s Syndrome, ADHD, and Rett Syndrome. The teachers and therapists working in the special education classes use the lap pads to help their students to focus and be more productive in class.
But there was a secondary beneficiary – Jake himself! He had to learn how to sew, and then train his work crew.
Check out the instructional video he made. And, with his new found mastery of the sewing machine, he has some interesting Troop projects in mind!
